Food, food, food!

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been following a strict exercise routine to prepare my body for the Launch Showcase in Chicago next month. That’s only half the battle though. The food and drinks I consume every day are equally important. I’ve been vegetarian since high school and I weaned myself off of dairy, junk food and soda around the same time but my current challenge has been cutting out sodium and making sure to eat produce every day, especially since I don’t have the budget to buy everything organic, but I’ve been reducing sodium by rinsing and draining the juice out of all canned food. The following is one of my typical daily meal plans; which includes a two-part breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon snack.

All food items shown were purchased from Aldi or Target.

Breakfast: Part One:

-One glass of green tea, drank with biotin and women’s daily multivitamin supplements

-One serving of a fruit smoothie: Approximately 1/4 of the bottle shown

-One large banana

-One serving of a different fruit, usually berries or an orange

Breakfast: Part Two:

-1/2 of a whole wheat bagel

-One serving of almonds: Approximately 24

-One Luna protein bar

Lunch:

-One bowl of salad with spinach and kale, chickpeas, kidney beans, sunflower seeds and olive oil, sprinkled with garlic powder and oregano

-One small Pink Lady apple

-Dessert: One one-inch square of 70% dark chocolate

Afternoon snack:

-Approximately nine whole-grain crackers

Dinner:

-Two tacos with black and pinto beans, tomatoes and hot sauce on whole wheat tortillas

-Dessert: Another one-inch square of 70% dark chocolate

Transformation Tuesday: Preparing to Launch

Right after moving to Minneapolis in January, I attended a modeling audition and was selected to attend the Launch Showcase in Chicago this June, where I will get the chance to audition for and network with a variety of modeling agents from around the country. Preparing for Launch has become a huge part of my life, and I’ve really stepped up my fitness routine as a result. It wasn’t a huge change for me, since I was already eating pretty healthy and working out about twice per week, but increasing it to six days per week has helped me to feel much more prepared and confident! Having to buy and cook all my own food has also been a factor, now that my parents-and  my dad’s awesome cooking are five hours away in North Dakota. I’ll be explaining my meal plan in a future blog post soon!

-Weight-lifting approximately twice per week for about 45 minutes

-Running a few miles per week

-Strength days: Mon/Weds/Fri: 3o minutes of yoga in the morning, 45 minutes of weight-lifting at night, running 1.5 miles

-Cardio days: Tues/Thurs: Running three miles

-Saturdays: One hour Zumba dance session

-Sundays: Rest day

I have a membership at Snap Fitness, where I do all my weight-lifting and running, unless it’s warm enough to run outside. I do yoga and Zumba with YouTube videos in my bedroom.

Sometimes on April Fools Day, I like to dress up like a “fool” and walk around in public. It’s been so entertaining so far that I may have to bring back this tradition every year!

Like many others, I’m single and didn’t have a date for Valentine’s Day yesterday. Even in past years when I did have a boyfriend though, I never liked when other girls would post mushy photos and updates on social media during V-day about how “they have the most amazing-est boyfriend in the world, OMG!” because he bought them some super expensive fancy thing. It puts an unfair amount of pressure on guys. I figured I’d have a little fun parodying that with a purple inflatable alien and the oh-so-romantic gifts of vodka and fast food. I documented the action live on Twitter and Instagram last night. So, meet Malcolm: my handsome and out-of-this-world Valentine’s Day date!
