Seventeen (Twenty-Three)

This past week has been a bit of a whirlwind, so I apologize for not posting sooner. I want to post much more often but I am still figuring out how to fit it into my schedule. I got back from the Launch Showcase late Sunday night, leaving decently proud with my performance. Apparently, I look about six years younger than I really am. I somewhat thought that already after having a few liquor store clerks falsely accuse me of using a fake ID, but hearing that I look like I’m 17  from nearly every agent I met with confirmed this theory officially. Thankfully, modeling is one of the only jobs where that can be hugely beneficial. It also makes me wonder if I would’ve gotten better results if I would’ve lied about my age. Well, oh well.

After another awesome photo shoot at Twin Cities Photography tonight, I just need to get through work and then I can finally squeeze in a proper 23rd birthday celebration with one of my best college friends, who is celebrating his 22nd birthday on Monday. We will probably be getting very drunk off a shared of UV Cake, because it’s not a proper birthday without “cake.”

Three More Days!

So it’s a bit crazy to think I have two milestones in my life coming up this Friday, June 20. Not only will I be flying out to Chicago at 6 am for the Launch Showcase–which may or may not change my life, it’s unpredictable–but it will also be my 23rd birthday, a.k.a. the two-year anniversary of that day I could start drinking legally, haha.

I’m not sure if I’m ready to be 23 yet. I don’t feel like I’m as mature as I should be right now, at least in certain areas of my life. I’m grateful for the increased confidence and financial independence I’ve gotten as a result of growing up, but I don’t want to ever let myself become boring, and I like to think it won’t happen anytime soon. I can still party pretty hard and I still enjoy many of the same activities I liked as a child and during college. I find it sad when people my age complain that they’re too old for certain things. I don’t ever want to feel like I’m too old for things I enjoy.

Hot Pink Tye-Dye

Hey! First of all, I apologize for my lack of posting in the last approximately two weeks. Work and life has gotten way too in the way. In positive news though, I finally have a job I enjoy and that pays well and I just moved into my own one-bedroom apartment! I love now having the freedom to do whatever I want at home; I can sit on the toilet naked with the door open or bring over a different guy every night if I wanted to, and no one will be bothered by it!

This dress is one of my favorite go-to summer pieces. I can just throw it on and feel instantly awesome, no matter how lazy I was with my hair and makeup. Pink, gold and white also happens to be one of my favorite color combos 🙂

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I’ve been so happy with the warm and sunny weather here lately! Summer is always my favorite time of the year, especially in the beginning when I know have a lot to look forward to! My favorite things include swimming outside, bright green trees and grass, the peachy cotton candy-colored sunsets and the light and airy clothing I get to wear every day. I also am lucky enough to live right by the beautiful Lake Nokomis, which has a beach and a sidewalk track around it. I especially love that I can see the downtown Minneapolis skyline from the lake; it’s a reminder that I get the best of both worlds 🙂

Red Hot

This red Wet Seal dress is one of my favorite date night outfits, whether it’s a first date or one-year anniversary with a guy, and it was only $10! I paid way more for my bag and shoes, haha.

I’ve also been experimenting with new settings on my camera, as I’ve gotten increasingly frustrated with the Auto one whenever I take outdoor photos. I like the Program setting, which I used in these photos, so much better!

Rainy Night at Da Club

It’s been super rainy for the past week or so here, which is awesome because it makes the grass such a pretty green, but it also makes it more difficult to travel places, like to da club without looking drowned. I wore this to Tiffany’s in St. Paul, which is an awesomely trashy college bar, last Thursday. I’ve had this waterproof black jacket for a few years and I wear it a ton, either by itself or layered over a tight-fitting hoodie when it’s cold out.

I bought this purse at Gordman’s when I was in middle school and I still love using it when I go out at night, because my usual big purses can get way too bulky on the dance floor. I don’t wear jeans very often; this is actually the only pair I own and I bought them when I was a high school senior. I love it when clothes I bought many years ago can last so long and still fit me well.

As for the rest of this outfit, I was a huge Britney Spears fan-girl as a fourth grader in the year 2000, and I used to dream about that year in the distant future when I could dress like her at da club. My dream came true in 2014 🙂

Food, food, food!

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been following a strict exercise routine to prepare my body for the Launch Showcase in Chicago next month. That’s only half the battle though. The food and drinks I consume every day are equally important. I’ve been vegetarian since high school and I weaned myself off of dairy, junk food and soda around the same time but my current challenge has been cutting out sodium and making sure to eat produce every day, especially since I don’t have the budget to buy everything organic, but I’ve been reducing sodium by rinsing and draining the juice out of all canned food. The following is one of my typical daily meal plans; which includes a two-part breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon snack.

All food items shown were purchased from Aldi or Target.

Breakfast: Part One:

-One glass of green tea, drank with biotin and women’s daily multivitamin supplements

-One serving of a fruit smoothie: Approximately 1/4 of the bottle shown

-One large banana

-One serving of a different fruit, usually berries or an orange

Breakfast: Part Two:

-1/2 of a whole wheat bagel

-One serving of almonds: Approximately 24

-One Luna protein bar

-One bowl of salad with spinach and kale, chickpeas, kidney beans, sunflower seeds and olive oil, sprinkled with garlic powder and oregano

-One small Pink Lady apple

-Dessert: One one-inch square of 70% dark chocolate

Afternoon snack:

-Approximately nine whole-grain crackers

-Two tacos with black and pinto beans, tomatoes and hot sauce on whole wheat tortillas

-Dessert: Another one-inch square of 70% dark chocolate

Transformation Tuesday: Preparing to Launch

Right after moving to Minneapolis in January, I attended a modeling audition and was selected to attend the Launch Showcase in Chicago this June, where I will get the chance to audition for and network with a variety of modeling agents from around the country. Preparing for Launch has become a huge part of my life, and I’ve really stepped up my fitness routine as a result. It wasn’t a huge change for me, since I was already eating pretty healthy and working out about twice per week, but increasing it to six days per week has helped me to feel much more prepared and confident! Having to buy and cook all my own food has also been a factor, now that my parents-and  my dad’s awesome cooking are five hours away in North Dakota. I’ll be explaining my meal plan in a future blog post soon!

Left photo (before): December 20, 2013: My college graduation from the University of North Dakota:

-Weight-lifting approximately twice per week for about 45 minutes

-Running a few miles per week

Right photo (after): April 29, 2014: Today:

-Strength days: Mon/Weds/Fri: 3o minutes of yoga in the morning, 45 minutes of weight-lifting at night, running 1.5 miles

-Cardio days: Tues/Thurs: Running three miles

-Saturdays: One hour Zumba dance session

-Sundays: Rest day

I have a membership at Snap Fitness, where I do all my weight-lifting and running, unless it’s warm enough to run outside. I do yoga and Zumba with YouTube videos in my bedroom.

Photos were taken using the self-timer on my IPhone 5s.

One of the biggest things I miss about college is being constantly surrounded by ambitious, hard-working people. I don’t get to experience that at my current gas station cashier job, where I am instead seeing constant examples of what I don’t want to become. I want to meet people who understand that there’s more to life than cigarettes and lottery tickets, who aren’t so comfortable where they’re at that they never push themselves to be any better. I know my worth and I’m not going to stop pushing myself until I get the opportunities I deserve.

I miss having a job where I can dress like Elle Woods, like my last job as an editor for my college newspaper, but I know I’m qualified for said job and will find it eventually. I believe anyone who works hard and is a generally good person will somehow be rewarded.

On a completely unrelated note, it’s that time of year when I need to start my weekly spray-tanning sessions again, since looking like a Twilight character no longer feels like a positive thing. Look for coverage of that in my next blog entry!

Leopard and Fishnets

Hey everyone! First of all, I apologize for not posting on here in about a week. I’ve been so stressed out from job-hunting that I just have not had the time or brainpower to focus on much else, haha. I had what felt like a successful interview yesterday though and I’m heading to a career fair later this week, so maybe the millionth time will be the charm?

This H&M leopard dress is one of my favorite things in my closet because I can  just throw it on and instantly feel more glammed up, even if I have greasy  hair and no makeup on. I also love my sparkly Tom’s shoes for going out at night, since they go with everything and are comfortable enough to dance for three hours in! At least for me, that’s an important factor!
